The Jerome Ashby Memorial Award celebrates the excellence and storied legacy of the world-renowned musician and educator JEROME ASHBY. He was, for 28 years, Associate Principal Horn of The New York Philharmonic, and was also a faculty member of The Juilliard School, Manhattan School of Music, The Curtis Institute, and the Aspen Festival. The two recipients of the Jerome Ashby Memorial Award - John Cerminaro (awarded in 2025) and Philip Myers (awarded in 2024) - were both closely associated with Jerome Ashby, who studied with John Cerminaro, and worked together with Philip Myers for 28 years at The New York Philharmonic.

"I will treasure the honor of being the 2025 recipient of the Jerome Ashby Memorial Award, which I was deeply moved to receive and I will cherish.
Jerry was one of my best students at Juilliard and Aspen. Above all, I encouraged Jerry to stay with what he was doing because he sounded so beautiful. I invited prominent horn players into Juilliard to present for Jerry & the other students masterclasses -- Barry Tuckwell, Myron Bloom, Dale Clevenger. They were an inspiration for Jerry to realize his great potential and give him extra confidence, as well. Everyone who knew Jerry loved him and misses him. Like us all, I came to admire him so deeply for his sincerity & devotion to family, music and our beloved French horn playing."
